Gainesville Newcomers Club Interest Groups
This group meets monthly and is on the hunt for treasures visiting shops in Gainesville and in towns in the surrounding area. Starting out in the morning, there is a stop for lunch before afternoon shopping and a return home mid-afternoon.
You can borrow items for your grandchildren's visit (i.e. Pac N Play, highchair, stroller, toys, etc.) and also items for rehabilitation (i.e. wheelchair, cane, walker, shower chair, commode, etc.) for visiting elderly or for your own recuperation. Couples Bridge meets monthly on Friday nights in the members' homes. There are two to three tables in each group, and the level of play is mostly intermediate. New members are welcome at any time, but if the groups are full, you might be placed on the substitute list until there is an opening.
Ladies Bridge Group meets on the third Monday of the month from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Bunco meets the first Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at Panera Bread on Dawsonville Hwy, and sign up is open year round.
Casual Dining In
Couples in this group take turns hosting a different group of three couples each month January through April. The hosts provide the main course and guests bring the other courses. If you are unable to commit to the season or unable to host, you may sign up to be on the list of substitutes. Sign up for the year is in September, but couples are welcome to sign up throughout the year as substitutes. You may choose either or both Host and/or Substitute.
Christmas on Green Street
CHRISTMAS ON GREEN STREET is a one night event held each year on the first Sunday in December and is sponsored by the Hall County Historical Society and has become a tradition with Newcomers. Members dress up in period costumes and serve as docents for the historical homes which are beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Jump on the train the first Thursday of the month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Panera Bread on Dawsonville Highway.
Gardeners’ day is the first Monday of the month. They visit area nurseries, potteries, public gardens, flower shows, and each other’s gardens.
Hand and Foot Canasta (Couples)
Couples Hand & Foot meets the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in members’ homes.
Hand & Foot Canasta (Ladies)
Ladies H&F Canasta group plays at 1:30 in the afternoon on the third Thursday of the month in members’ homes.
Hike the trails of local, state, and national parks in the area on the third Tuesday of the month.
Members meet for a group ride every Thursday May through September with a break for lunch or dinner.
Ladies Night Out
This group meets once a month rotating evenings of the week. Our activities vary but are mostly fun, high energy gatherings for ladies who like a little adventure. Expect anything from craft nights to murder mystery parties, or from relaxed dinner out to escape rooms and scavenger hunts.
Get to know fellow members and sample the fare at area restaurants on the second Tuesday of each month.
Members host this casual gathering in their homes on the second Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m.
This group meets almost every Friday at 11:00 at a local restaurant, breaks for lunch and continues play.

Singles Munch & Mingle
This group meets for fellowship once a month, alternating lunch and dinner.
Sun, Sail & Ale
No sailing involved! This social gathering occurs from 3:00-5:00 on various Sundays of the month in members’ homes for drinks and tidbits. Spouses welcome.
The Writers Group
The Writers Group is a supportive writers’ critique group that encourages writers of all experience levels and genres. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at various locations from 10 a.m. - noon.
Theater and Movies
Enjoy a movie or live theater with the group.
Warm Up America
This group knits and crochets afghans for the Red Cross, baby items for Newborns in Need, and scarves and hats for the homeless in Gainesville. They meet the third Tuesday morning of the month in Amy’s home.
Wine lovers visit area wineries and tasting rooms monthly.
